BiteBuzz™
Privacy Policy
Effective [DATE] · Last updated [DATE]
Draft — for legal review. This reflects how the BiteBuzz app actually handles data as of this writing. Before launch, have a lawyer review it and fill the [bracketed] placeholders (operating entity, effective date, contact address, and any state-specific disclosures).
This policy explains what BiteBuzz (“BiteBuzz,” “we,” “us”), operated by [BiteBuzz LLC / operating entity], collects when you use the BiteBuzz mobile app, why, and what choices you have. BiteBuzz is a discovery app for local food and drink deals. It is currently a pilot in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address, and a display name and optional profile photo if you add them. Email and password are used to sign you in.
- Your saved deals — the deals you tap “Save” on.
- Reports and feedback — if you report a problem with a deal, we store the deal, the reason, any note you add, and that it came from your account.
- Business submissions — if you register a business, the business name, address, category, contact details, and any logo or verification document you upload.
Information collected automatically
- Location — with your permission, your device's approximate location, used to show deals near you and sort them by distance. You can instead type a city. If you set a “home” location, we store that. We do not keep a history of where you have been.
- Usage — which deals are shown to you and which you view, so the app can display counts like “popular” and so we can understand what's useful. Basic diagnostic and crash information from the app and its platform (Apple, Google).
What we do not collect
- No payment card or bank information. BiteBuzz does not process payments.
- No access to your contacts, photos (beyond a photo you deliberately choose to upload), microphone, or messages.
- No third-party advertising SDKs, and no tracking of you across other apps or websites.
How we use information
- To operate the app — show you nearby deals, keep you signed in, save your deals, and let businesses manage listings.
- To respond to deal reports and keep listings accurate.
- To understand which deals and features are used, and to improve the app.
- To contact you about your account or a report you filed.
- To detect and prevent abuse, and to comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How information is stored and shared
BiteBuzz runs on Supabase, which hosts our database and authentication on cloud infrastructure located in the United States. Data is protected in transit with encryption and, within the database, by per-user access rules so that one user cannot read another user's account data.
We share information only with:
- Service providers that run the app on our behalf — our hosting provider (Supabase), our email-delivery provider (for sign-in and password-reset messages), and the app stores (Apple, Google) for crash and delivery data. They may only use it to provide their service to us.
- Authorities, if we are legally required to, or to protect the rights and safety of people or of BiteBuzz.
- A successor, if BiteBuzz or its assets are acquired or merged — in which case this policy continues to apply, or you will be notified of a new one.
Deal listings, business names, and business-provided details are shown publicly in the app. Your account email, saved deals, location, and reports are not shown to other users.
Retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep something to comply with the law or resolve a dispute. Aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably identify you may be kept.
Your choices and rights
- Location — you can turn off location permission in your device settings at any time; the app will ask you to type a city instead.
- Access, correction, deletion — email hello@bitebuzz.app to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to delete your account.
- Depending on where you live (for example, California or other U.S. states with privacy laws), you may have additional rights to know, delete, correct, and to not be discriminated against for exercising them. Contact us at the address above and we will honor them.
Children
BiteBuzz is not directed to children. You must be at least 17 years old to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13; if you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable measures — encryption in transit, database access controls, and limited staff access — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use BiteBuzz after a change means you accept the updated policy.
